Every week or so Trash will pick its five favourite songs and showcase the artists responsible for them. They'll usually be by new up-and-coming musicians though occasionally, a lesser-known older song will be thrown in for good measure. And so, without further ado...
Trash Tracks: 29/07/2011
1. Bubblegum Screw - Subway Queen.
http://www.myspace.com/bubblegumscrew
One of the newer additions to the Screw's set of late, Subway Queen is a song penned in part by drummer Sebastien Frey from a previous band. Given the Bubblegum Screw treatment, Subway Queen is drenched in decadence and bravado, but also humour, often being introduced by singer Mark Thorn as "a song about a girl from a sandwich shop". The song has one of the sexiest guitar riffs I've heard in a very long time, and its execution brings together New York Dolls glam, the snotty energy of the Dead Boys and a throbbing garage punk stomp of which the Fugs would be proud.
However,it's only available to hear live as a demo is yet to be recorded so be sure to catch Bubblegum Screw as soon as you can. They're playing Cambridge Rock Festival as main support to 70s pub-rockers Eddie and the Hot Rods [listen to the latter's 'Teenage Depression'] on Friday 5th August.
2. The Palace of Justice - Meredith

PoJ's brand new single is available to download from 3pm today (29/07/2011) at the web address above! The love of Trash for Justice knows few bounds and following a storming debut album released earlier this year, The Palace of Justice just continue to out-do themselves with their compelling poetic narratives set against effervescent gypsy indie-rock.
3. Healthy Junkies - Manifesto
http://www.myspace.com/healthyjunkies
Gritty politicized rock-out from Trash's favourite grunge band, Healthy Junkies. Irresistible vocal hooks, searing guitars and incredible depth of sound - it's an absolute joy and works even better live. One of the hardest working bands I've come across, Healthy Junkies have a number of gigs coming up-check Facebook or the band's Myspace for details.
4. Pink Cigar - Strange
http://www.myspace.com/1pinkcigar
I was lucky enough to hear the curiously-named Pink Cigar last friday at The Silver Bullet opposite Finsbury Park Station and have had this bluesy little shuffle in my head ever since. This is the demo version and it's a pretty good distillation of the way that the band performs live, which is intense and totally credible. The opening chiming guitar riff sounds like it's been cherry-picked from a Cramps song and the vocals accelerate with the music, going from paired down blues-rock drawl to high-voltage punked-out frenzy. Pink Cigar plays the free Vintage Festival at Southbank this Sunday (31st).
5. The Loose Lips - Who Do You Love?
http://www.myspace.com/thelooselipsmusic
This is another Trash recommended track that you can only hear during a Loose Lips set, and its a live favourite. Drawing inspiration from the Rolling Stones and the Faces, the Loose Lips combine a duo of interweaving guitars and dense, funky bass-lines and bucket-loads of charisma and stage-presence, the vocal delivery and musicianship never anything less than impressive and impassioned. The Loose Lips play the Farr Festival tomorrow (Saturday 30 July) as well as few other festivals this summer.

***The Palace of Justice release their latest single off eagerly awaited new album***
(photo: Marta Owczarek)
Trash Blog is very excited to report that the mighty Palace of Justice are releasing their newest single 'Meredith' (B-side: 'Hourglass') today at 3pm available for free download from the band's Bandcamp page! What could be better than free Justice?! That's not even available in a court of law...

For anyone who's ever heard these guys play live, you'll recognise Meredith instantly, and if you haven't already downloaded the trio's debut, 'The Album of Justice' then it is highly recommended. Again, it's absolutely free and was recorded entirely on lead singer/guitarist George Clark's 8-track late last year. Reports would seem to suggest the band's second album is on its way to completion - the band have been dilligently and almost religiously putting in the hours at a studio near Manor House, north London, for weeks now and a few cheeky listens of some recordings have confirmed my suspicions that it's going to be an absolute triumph.
PoJ play the Good Ship in Kilburn on Friday 5th August. Here's the Facebook event for those so inclined:

Welcome to Trash Blog
***WELCOME TO TRASH BLOG***
After saying for far too long that I was going to set up a blog to showcase Trash of Camden clothing as well as, and probably more importantly, all the new music I've ben fortunate enough to bear witness of late, Trash Blog is finally here. For those unacquainted with what Trash of Camden aims to achieve, here's what might be considered the closest thing to a Trash Manifesto:
WRAP YOURSELF IN TRASH
Trash of Camden aims to use recycled fabric/found objects/old trash in order to produce customized second-hand jackets, jumpers and other clothing. There's nothing off-the-peg here. The aim is to create fun and wearable hand-made items that are guaranteed one-offs. This is the ultimate in recycled, reinvented and re-worked clothing.
'TAKEN HOME AND TARTED UP BY TRASH'
Trash aims to salvage unwanted clothing, jewellery and junk from a life of mistreatment, neglect and inactivity. Taken home by Trash, these items are tarted up to within an inch of their pretty little lives and released back onto the dirty streets of Camden Town, ready to be worn to death and loved by a new owner.
It's almost like Battersea Dogs Home... only with jackets rather than puppies.
The clue's in the name and it's the honest truth that old trash works so much better on these items than anything new. Trash mixes kitsch costume jewellery and pearls alongside junk and ringpulls to create a completely original piece every time, all hand-sewn and tried and tested in extreme environments. Trash has been worn and found to withstand relentless everyday wear, raucous gigs, heavy weather conditions and even kettles in Parliament Square. It's hardy stuff is Trash, and the beauty is that a bit of wear and tear only makes it look better.
TRASH WAS BORN IN THE JUNKYARD....
...And is proud to support local music. That's why it's more than just a label, it's as much a way of promoting new, up-and-coming music. This is where Trash Blog, its rated bands' gigs and regularly updated 'Trash Tracks' comes in. Keep an eye on the recommended acts and live reviews that'll be posted as soon as possible.
Until then, much love,
Kate Trash XX
