Trash is thrilled to report that there are two fabulous gigs scheduled for Thursday 29th September.
Healthy Junkies will be officially launching their long-awaited debut album, 'Sicknote' at the Dublin Castle in Camden on Thursday 29th September. Also on the bill are Bubblegum Screw and The Palace of Justice which basically equates to one of the tastiest line-ups imaginable. A great venue hosting three fantastic bands, all at the absolute top of their musical game, for only £6. That's two pounds a band. That's about fifty pence a band member, give or take. That's GREAT VALUE.

Th'Sheridans will be joining Fair-Ohs and Shout Timber at the launch of UCL's 'Popaganda' live music night at Mully's Basement Bar of The Huntley, UCLU, on the corner of Gower Street. A genuinely unique outfit with sometimes-fluctuating lineup, at the moment Th'Sheridans consists of Joe, Julia and Adam, and sources inform me that their set at Popaganda will include lots of new hardly-performed material which is very exciting indeed:

Although it's bloody annoying that both gigs are on the same evening, the chances are that each band is playing again soon so be sure to check them out on Myspace, Facebook etc.
Every week or so Trash will pick its five favourite songs and showcase the artists responsible for them. They'll usually be by new up-and-coming musicians though occasionally, a lesser-known older song will be thrown in for good measure. And so, without further ado...

1. Bubblegum Screw - Subway Queen.

One of the newer additions to the Screw's set of late, Subway Queen is a song penned in part by drummer Sebastien Frey from a previous band. Given the Bubblegum Screw treatment, Subway Queen is drenched in decadence and bravado, but also humour, often being introduced by singer Mark Thorn as "a song about a girl from a sandwich shop". The song has one of the sexiest guitar riffs I've heard in a very long time, and its execution brings together New York Dolls glam, the snotty energy of the Dead Boys and a throbbing garage punk stomp of which the Fugs would be proud.
However,it's only available to hear live as a demo is yet to be recorded so be sure to catch Bubblegum Screw as soon as you can. They're playing Cambridge Rock Festival as main support to 70s pub-rockers Eddie and the Hot Rods [listen to the latter's 'Teenage Depression'] on Friday 5th August.
2. The Palace of Justice - Meredith

The love of Trash for Justice knows few bounds and following a storming debut album released earlier this year, The Palace of Justice just continue to out-do themselves with their compelling poetic narratives set against effervescent gypsy indie-rock.
3. Healthy Junkies - Manifesto

Gritty politicized rock-out from Trash's favourite grunge band, Healthy Junkies. Irresistible vocal hooks, searing guitars and incredible depth of sound - it's an absolute joy and works even better live. One of the hardest working bands I've come across, Healthy Junkies have a number of gigs coming up-check Facebook or the band's Myspace for details.
4. Pink Cigar - Strange

I was lucky enough to hear the curiously-named Pink Cigar last friday at The Silver Bullet opposite Finsbury Park Station and have had this bluesy little shuffle in my head ever since. This is the demo version and it's a pretty good distillation of the way that the band performs live, which is intense and totally credible. The opening chiming guitar riff sounds like it's been cherry-picked from a Cramps song and the vocals accelerate with the music, going from paired down blues-rock drawl to high-voltage punked-out frenzy. Pink Cigar plays the free Vintage Festival at Southbank this Sunday (31st).
5. The Loose Lips - Who Do You Love?

This is another Trash recommended track that you can only hear during a Loose Lips set, and its a live favourite. Drawing inspiration from the Rolling Stones and the Faces, the Loose Lips combine a duo of interweaving guitars and dense, funky bass-lines and bucket-loads of charisma and stage-presence, the vocal delivery and musicianship never anything less than impressive and impassioned. The Loose Lips play the Farr Festival tomorrow (Saturday 30 July) as well as few other festivals this summer.
